Islamorada Fishing Report – January 18, 2011

If you have had enough of the SNOW and COLD, you should start thinking about heading south. The weather in Islamorada was perfect all week; full of sunshine and light breezes. Best of all the fish wanted to play all week and the bait was more than plentiful.  Both the “Pretty Work” and “That’s Right” fished just about all week long. Captain Clyde and Captain Joe had a really nice week with the Sailfish catching and releasing 14 as well as several smoker Kings and some real nice Cobias. I along with Captain Andrew did our standard meat fishing and we tore the reef up (not literally)! We had our limit of King Mackerels every day as well as some super catches of Cero Mackerels.  The shallow patches were alive with Ballyhoo and the Ceros were everywhere!  This is incredible fishing; all caught on 12lb test and small minnow lures and Gotchas.  We did manage to catch some real nice Cobias ourselves as well as plenty of Mangrove and Yellowtail Snappers.  Overall things have been real good down here and we are looking forward to a continuation of real good fishing and pleasant weather!
